Diamond Platnumz, is a Bongo Flava recording artist and singer from Tanzania. He is best known for his hit song “Number One”, which he performed at the Big Brother Star Game eviction show in May 2012. He returned to the Big Brother Africa stage in 2014 for the launch show of Big Brother Hotshots.
Influential among his fans, Diamond is said to be one of the most loved and decorated Tanzanian artists at the moment. He was one of the highest-selling Tanzanian artists of ringtones by mobile phone companies in 2013, as well as being among the highest-income recording artists in the African Great Lakes’ region.
Diamond has received numerous nominations and wins for music awards. This year he has been nominated for the Channel O Music Video Awards, as well as the Kora Awards. Earlier this year he set a new record at the Tanzania Music Awards by winning seven awards, including Best Male Writer, Best Male Artist, Best Songwriter and Best Male Entertainer of the Year.
Music videos have been produced for many of his songs including “Mdogo Mdogo”, “Number One”, “Ntampata Wapi” and “Mawazo”. He recently joined a host of other artists to create a music video appealing for aid to fight against Ebola. The proceeds will go to fighting the virus that has blighted the lives of many West Africans.
He also appeared in the “Cocoa na Chocolate” music video with Fally Ipupa and a host of other Africa artists. Catch Diamond on Big Brother Africa yet again, as he joins the Hotshots in advocating the importance of the ONE Africa campaign.
